Garage Sale Time

One man's junk is another man's treasure... but don't rely on this parable alone to ensure the success of your garage sale!  Just follow these easy steps to successfully clear the unwanted clutter fro your home and add a few dollars to your pocket!

  • Plan ahead...  Schedule your sale for a weekend- avoid holidays and special events.  Check with neighbors, friends or family and schedule a block or family garage sale.
  • What sells best?... Items like appliances, furniture, cooks, dishes, utensils, toys and clothes sell the best.
  • Priced to move... Be realistic when pricing, most garage sale shoppers want a DEAL!!  Be prepared to reduce the price to get rid of items.  Generously discount broken, chipped or permanently stained items.
  • Displaying the goods... Provide an electrical outlet for customers to "test drive" appliances.  Display odds - n - ends together and mark them all 25 cents or set up a free box to stimulate buyers interest.
  • Selling... Set up display signs to flag your best items.
  • Advertise... Make sure you have adequate signs and directions, advertise in local papers to drive your buyers to your sale.

Good luck and have fun!!  Include the kids and let them sell lemonade and cookies.  They get a kick out of helping with garage sales.
